TST1988

TST1988, a piano trio established in 2024, features clarinet, cello, and piano. The trio's members are Dr. Tawanrat Mewongukote (clarinet), Dr. Smatya Wathawathana (cello), and Dr. Tarin Supprakorn (piano). Although they have been friends for years, their first concert together was under the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music as part of the Musique de la Vie concert series.

Here is a brief biography of the trio members:

 

Dr. Tawanrat Mewongukote graduated with First Class Honors from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at Chulalongkorn University in 2009. She received a prestigious scholarship to pursue her graduate studies at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. She then served as a teaching assistant at The Ohio State University for three years before completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in clarinet performance at Boston University's School of Music, supported by another scholarship from Boston University. Tawanrat serves as a full-time lecturer at the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, where she is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of musicians. She also finds joy as a clarinetist of the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.

 

Dr. Smatya Wathawathana is a distinguished cellist, educator, and music therapist in Thailand. She holds a doctoral degree in Development Administration from Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, a master's degree in Music Therapy from Mahidol University, and a bachelor's degree from Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. Dr. Smatya serves as a music therapist at Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, specializing in dementia patients, and uses innovative approaches to enhance their well-being through music. She is also a member of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, where her cello performances captivate audiences. Currently, Dr. Smatya is a lecturer at the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, where she inspires and mentors future musicians and music therapists. Her dedication to both artistic expression and compassionate service highlights her commitment to using music for healing, education, and community connection.

 

Dr. Tarin Supprakorn is active as a solo pianist, collaborative pianist, and piano pedagogue. He has won top prizes in numerous competitions in Thailand, Japan, Lithuania, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United States. He attained the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music in Piano Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied with Dr, Neita True, He received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Yong Siew To Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, studying with Dr, Thomas Hecht. Supprakorn began piano studies in his native Thailand, receiving a full scholarship from the M. L. Pangroy Apaiwongse Scholarship Fund to study with Dr. Induon Srikaranonda-Balakauskas in Bangkok, He was also a scholarship recipient of the Fund for Classical Music Promotion Under the Patronage of HRH Princess Galayani Vadhana. Currently, Dr. Supprakorn serves as a full-time faculty member at Western Music Department, Faculty of Humanities, Kasetsart University, and Head of Academic at Kawai Music School Thailand. He is also a piano instructor at Royal Bangkok Symphony Music School, SOONER The Classical Music School, Horwang Music Academy, Kawai Music Chonburi, and Peterson Piano Institute.
