Professor Dr. Kimho Ip

Professor Dr. Kimho Ip

Since 2017 Prof. Kimho Ip has been teaching at Lingnan University and from 2020 became the Head of the Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit. He has been and still is an adjunct assistant professor at the Department of Physics at University of Hong Kong. After graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a first-class Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Degree in 1996, major in music and minor in German studies, Kimho has been awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for Overseas Studies in 1998, and the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service in 1997 and began his study in Germany. Following the footsteps of Prof. Nigel Osborne, Kimho went to Scotland where his real journey of Interculture unfolded, starting with music, following on to theatre and the participation in practice-as-research. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in 2004 at the University of Edinburgh. In 2011 and 2014 Kimho has been invited to be Research Fellow at the International Research Centre, Interweaving Performance Culture at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. His research articles on Interculture and music has been published by journals in Germany, Thailand and China. He is also researcher for the project Link Sound Sinfonia, for SEN youth and children since 2021. Collaborating with musicians, visual artists, sound healers, community musicians and therapists from the clinical field, Prof. Ip carries on to bring non-musicians to make music, to create music together with a community of learners.
