After a long hiatus due to Covid, YST has renewed its connection to Bali and the Balinese culture with the return of a mid-term course open to all students of YST, NUS and partner institutions. The revival has not simply been a continuation of the previous editions of the Bali programme, but has been a rethinking of our relationship to the South East Asian cultures surrounding us, and a renewed questioning of the relevance and significance of our Western Conservatory model in this part of the world. In this presentation Karst de Jong will discuss the questions and motivations behind the ‘Regional Resonance’ project and share photo’s videos and stories of the 2024 edition of the project. This took place from July 1-13 on Bali in cooperation with the Bali Jaladara foundation, with 12 participating students as well as many local artists, teachers and young Balinese musicians.
