ANIMAL in Thailand Part 1 "Unvoiced"
ANIMAL in Thailand Part 1 "Unvoiced" is a collaborative instrumental theater performance with Korean traditional music that replicates the conflict between humans and animals, specifically tortoises, in the context of animal poaching, which contributes to the sixth extinction crisis. The instrument used in the performance physically and visually imitates a tortoise shell covered with aluminum plates that are attached with steel strings. This setup creates an acoustic resonator by utilizing the random swinging pattern of the strings and also timbral changes through the pulling and bending of the plates to replicate the sensation of interfering with tortoise bodies. simultaneously, chains, nuts and bolts inside the shell structure randomly strike bronze bowls, generating indeterminate sounds and patterns according to the performer’s movements.
