Building on the themes explored in the Mae Naam: Her Stories exhibition, this performance delves into the Symposium’s focus through both sonic and urban lenses. By intertwining musical and gestural narratives with the auditory landscapes of the city, the evening highlights the disappearing and clashing sounds of Bangkok and London. It invites the audience to imagine and explore new, hybrid spaces—places where the echoes of these cities can merge, offering fresh auditory environments for listeners to inhabit. We invite our audience to envision new, imagined spaces—where the remnants of these urban soundscapes converge, creating unique environments for listeners to experience and inhabit.
The evening unfolds with a series of interconnected performances showcasing the creative explorations of composition and sound art students from PGVIM. These students present the results of a workshop that merges field recordings of Bangkok with acoustic improvisations. Composer and computer music expert Scott Wilson from Birmingham engages in an aquatic improvisation with Bangkok-based sound artist Annmanee Singhanart, further deepening the evening’s exploration of soundscapes.
Gabriele Mastrototaro from Studio Musikfabrik performs two solo flute works—Salvatore Sciarrino's Canzona di Ringraziamento per flauto and Bettina Skrzypczak's Mouvement—bringing the audience into a more intimate reflection on sound and its emotional resonance.
In a collaborative performance, violist Haylin Park from Musikhochschule Lübeck and oboist Patnaree Chulasakcharoen from PGVIM join forces to interpret Hermione Johnson's Shaking in the Garden, blending their sounds into a unified expression.
French Horn player Komsun Dilokkunanant interacts with "School of …," a thought-provoking sound installation by Kansiree Chirawattanaphan and Teetawat Mounggate, which highlights the environmental crisis by using discarded plastic bottles to mimic ocean sounds. This piece echoes the evening’s underlying theme of environmental awareness and the urgent need for action.
Throughout the evening, performance artist Mike Hornblow seamlessly weaves gestural narratives while the musical offerings are interspersed with video art pieces by the four artists featured in the exhibition: pantea, Claudia Molitor, Anothai Nitibhon, and Jean-David Caillouët, creating a cohesive and immersive multimedia experience.
