Description

This workshop explores the exciting intersection of acoustic music creation and digital audio workstations (DAWs), designed specifically for Southeast Asian music students.  Participants will delve into how DAWs can enhance and expand their acoustic musical practices, moving beyond simple recording.  We'll examine the powerful potential of sequencing to create complex rhythmic structures and layer traditional instruments in new ways.  The workshop will also cover the art of sampling, demonstrating how to capture, manipulate, and integrate sounds from Southeast Asian musical traditions into original compositions.  Finally, we will introduce the fundamentals of algorithmic composition, showing how to use generative techniques to create unique textures and explore new sonic territories, all while maintaining a connection to the rich musical heritage of the region.  This hands-on workshop will equip students with practical skills and creative strategies to bridge the gap between their acoustic musical backgrounds and the digital music production landscape.
