Keynote Session 2

11:00 - 12:00 hrs (GMT+7)
Sangita Vadhana Hall (SVH)
Professor of Music at Boston University

Based on decades of experience working in some of the most diverse settings worldwide, André de Quadros will explore the multifaceted nature of diversity in music-making, arguing that it extends far beyond identity to encompass a broad spectrum of epistemologies and artistic practices. Grounding his presentation in both research and lived experience, he will illustrate how diversity serves as a vital force for bridge-building across cultural, disciplinary, and institutional boundaries. Through an examination of his own work, de Quadros will highlight the role of diversity in shaping curricula, degree programs, and institutional frameworks, as well as its significance in informal community settings and experiential learning. By weaving together theory and practice, he will demonstrate how embracing diverse ways of knowing and engaging with music can foster deeper connections, encourage transformative pedagogy, and cultivate more inclusive and dynamic musical spaces.
